Understanding Monitor Aspect Ratios
Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between an image's width and height. Standard laptops and 4K TV monitors use 16:9 (3840Ã2160 or 1920Ã1080). Ultrawide monitors use 21:9 (3440Ã1440), while super-ultrawide monitors use 32:9 (5120Ã1440).
Avoiding Letterboxing & Image Distortion
If you set a standard 16:9 wallpaper on a 21:9 ultrawide display without proper cropping, your operating system will either stretch the image unnaturally or display black bars on the sides. Always choose wallpapers matching your physical monitor aspect ratio.
